Copernical Solar Systeme

This model shows the solar system as it really is. The main focus of the Copernican (heliocentric) solar system is to explain about the ten planets of our Sun’s system, including the area which represents the asteroid belt. This is shown with a wire in the position of the asteroids, but no ball for a single planet in that position. This system is referred to as the Copernican Solar system, after the scientist Copernicus.

A chart can be used to set the locations of the planets, month by month, so that the motions of all of the planets in relation to one another can be demonstrated. This activity also is useful in understanding why space travel is so complicated.

The Copernican Solar System model is also useful in comparison to the Ptolemaic Solar System (SOL- 300), because it provides a more complete understanding of the earlier and later theories of our relationships in the solar system. An instruction book, Worlds in Motion, is included with this model.
